Applications are now open for Intersecting Peripheries, an international exchange program organized by the Toyooka Theater Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the first edition in 2025, which brought together artists and producers from across Asia for field research, performances, and dialogue in Toyooka, the program returns in 2026 with a renewed focus on our relationship with nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Across Asia and beyond, communities are facing shared challenges: population decline and aging, climate change and natural disasters, the transformation of local cultures through tourism, and the reconfiguration of communities amid rapid social change. Yet the ways people respond to these challenges are deeply shaped by local histories, cultural practices, and everyday forms of knowledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year\u2019s program asks how performing arts might help us reimagine our relationship with nature\u2014not simply as an environment or a resource, but as a network of relationships in which humans are embedded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Through performance viewings, field research, conversations with local residents, and exchanges among participants from different regions, we will explore themes such as ritual, embodied knowledge, memory of place, care, and community-based cultural practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Intersecting Peripheries is not only a platform for discussion, but also a space for encounter. It brings together artists and producers from diverse contexts to share experiences, exchange perspectives, and learn from one another through the lens of performing arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We invite artists and producers who are interested in these questions to join us in Toyooka and explore together how locally rooted artistic and cultural practices can contribute to imagining new futures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
