Under Japan\u2019s policy of segregation, many residents lost their eyesight and the sensation in their fingertips. In response, some developed a way of reading Braille using the only remaining sensitive parts of their bodies\u2014the lips and tongue\u2014as a means of reconnecting with the outside world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Taking this attempt to find light within darkness as its point of departure, the work reimagines the body that we ordinarily take for granted. Through pain, absence, and the transformation of touch, the body is reshaped into another kind of body altogether.
