\u300eIn the Deep Sea\u300f is a story about the things we have come to worship as light. \u201cEconomic independence,\u201d \u201csocial success,\u201d and \u201cthe recognition of others\u201d are both life goals and elusive illusions that keep us swimming endlessly.
In a deep sea where all sense of direction has been lost, the play personifies the deep-sea anglerfish\u2014a creature that emits its own light to lure others\u2014as a contemporary human body.
Those who move toward the light ultimately either devour others and remain alone, or turn their backs on the light and flee into deeper darkness.
However, \u300eIn the Deep Sea\u300f leaves the ending open. Rather than a sharp, blinding light, it entrusts the audience with the possibility of a soft glow\u2014one born from relationships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The workshop explores the relationship between the body and the mask through Neutral Masks and Character Masks. Participants set aside familiar modes of expression that rely on the face and facial expression, and experience how the mask emerges as a presence through breath, centre, gaze, and movement.
