{"id":9901,"date":"2025-06-10T12:36:44","date_gmt":"2025-06-10T03:36:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/toyooka-theaterfestival.jp\/en\/?post_type=program&#038;p=9901"},"modified":"2025-08-28T00:48:09","modified_gmt":"2025-08-27T15:48:09","slug":"serenade-of-the-sea-2","status":"publish","type":"program","link":"https:\/\/toyooka-theaterfestival.jp\/en\/program\/9901\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cSerenade of the Sea\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In this collaborative project, researchers of coral reef environmental earth sciences, Tsuyoshi Watanabe and Atsuko Yamazaki, alongside playwright Rena Miyazaki and director Megumi Yamashita, combine science and the performing arts, exploring future forms of collective intelligence shaped by new relationships between humans and nature.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSerenade of the Sea\u201d is the second work to emerge from this project. It follows \u201cYurau,\u201d (staged on Kikai Island and Komaba Agora Theater in Tokyo,) a piece developed from scientific data and local ecological knowledge spanning the past, present, and future of Kikai Island. \u201cSerenade of the Sea\u201d draws on restoration ecology data from 50,000 years ago, including coral and giant clam shells found on Kikai Island, which was formed by the uplift of coral reefs during massive earthquakes occurring once every tens of thousands of years. It also incorporates findings from the large-scale discovery of coral uplifted during the January 1, 2024 earthquake on the Noto Peninsula.
