“Oto-Shakkei (Borrowed Soundscapes)”
Composer Mayuko Matsumoto presents Oto-Shakkei, inspired by shakkei, a traditional Japanese garden design method that borrows surrounding landscapes. Oto-Shakkei means “Borrowed Soundscapes” — the practice of capturing and arranging environmental sounds to create music that reflects the spirit of a place. In this project, Matsumoto creates a musical tapestry from the sounds shaped by Takeno’s natural rhythms, atmosphere, and way of life. The work will be shared at Kitamaekan, with a final-day workshop inviting participants to listen deeply and co-create with the soundscape.
