Costume designer. A member of the theater group “Tonariya.” Viewing clothing as an extension of the body, they create stage costumes themed around the “relationship between the environment and the body,” including the habits, actions, and spaces found in daily life. By extending the body through costume or by turning the environment itself into a costume, they focus on the bidirectional flow of energy between the environment and the body, exploring “human existence that is always there, yet often difficult to see” through their work. In recent years, they have also been presenting mask-making workshops and costume exhibitions themed around specific locations.

Bath & Exhibition: The exhibition features masks created by workshop participants and masks themed around Ichinoyu. We highly recommend enjoying the exhibition along with a bath (an admission fee is required to view the exhibition).
Secondhand Clothing Discount: This discount applies to those who bring any “wearable” item, such as clothing, shoes, or accessories. There is no limit to the number of items you can bring (starting from one item).

A Mask-Making Workshop and Exhibition Inspired
by Walking Through Kinosaki
A mask-making workshop and exhibition that invites participants to discover their own unique way of seeing Kinosaki by walking through the town.
Leaving behind familiar sightseeing routes such as the public bath circuit, participants will search for places that personally draw them in—somewhere they feel like sitting, entering, or simply stopping to look. They will take a fresh look at overlooked scenery and places that catch their attention, imagine each location as a face, and create a mask inspired by it under the guidance of a costume designer. Once the mask is complete, participants will have their photograph taken wearing it at the location that inspired the design.
The workshop will take place at MMM in Kinosaki. Participants will create their masks using wearable materials, including second-hand clothing collected by the costume designer from across Japan. The completed masks and photographs will be exhibited during the festival at Ichinoyu, one of Kinosaki’s public bathhouses, and will be mailed to participants after the festival has ended.
The exhibition will also feature photographs of the locations discovered by participants, along with video footage from the workshop. In addition, visitors can see masks inspired by Ichinoyu and take part in a casual mask-design activity at a drawing corner.
Admission to the exhibition requires either the separate purchase of an admission ticket to Ichinoyu or a workshop-and-bath package ticket.
Please note that the workshop on Friday, September 18 will be filmed. The footage is scheduled to be shown at the exhibition venue during the festival as a record of the workshop. Participants who do not wish to be filmed or who have concerns about appearing in the footage are asked to speak with a staff member before taking part.
