Research for Performance Creation: Beginning with Building a Fire and Gathering Around It

Rather than expression that serves a narrative or an audience, we arrange pure movement—which simply “exists,” like a fire that burns autonomously in accordance with the laws of physics—within the form of a performance.

For example, we experimentally present—in any environment, without limiting ourselves to the framework of the theater—actions detached from specific purposes, such as those seen in cooking processes or on work sites, or the ever-changing passage of time as fire and materials transform.

We aim to create a space of pure contact between the observer and the phenomenon, without the aim of conveying meaning.

To position humans not as the “subjects of a narrative,” but as “mediators” that facilitate the progression of phenomena, thereby this activity will construct a space where material time simply continues to accumulate.
