Distance is created in all things. When we look at things from the perspective of “I”, we can see distances with various relationships. Me and you, me and things, me and me. There is physical distance, and there is also psychological distance. For the past three years, we have been physically far away from each other, Belgium and Tokyo, but the psychological distance between us has remained close. On the other hand, in this society, there are cases where the psychological distance feels far even if the physical distance is close. Is it really the self that creates the distance? In this residency production, Okada and Suzuki will meet again in Yabu/Akenobe, and create works centered on interactions with local people through their stay. In addition to visualizing the sense of distance that each person has through research and workshops, we will extract individual episodes unique to this place, and episodes of Okada and Suzuki. Why do they choose to be in a place despite the “disadvantages” of distance? Is the sense of distance from themselves really zero distance? There is no right answer. Re-recognize the location of the body and the roots of life, and create time to think.

After graduating from the Department of Theater at Nihon University College of Art, Okada went on to study at the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Tokyo University of the Arts, majoring in Interdisciplinary Art and Media, while Suzuki deepened his studies at P.A.R.T.S, a school affiliated with the Belgian dance company Rosas, while searching for his own expression. While attending university, the two presented a work in Tokyo and Kanazawa under the name 21. Gosa, which mixed humor into the difference in their heights, but this time they have reunited in Akenobe, having developed their individual skills in different places.
