Toyooka is known for its collection of retro buildings that remain part of the city’s fabric. They were built after the 1925 earthquake, when the city was reconstructed with reinforced concrete and timber structures designed with fire prevention in mind. Together they created a “firebreak” through the town, and remarkably, they remain in everyday use a century later. On this walking tour, you’ll explore these historic buildings with a guide, discover the stories behind them, and experience how the past continues to shape the present cityscape.
This tour is also available in English. We invite you to enjoy it alongside the Toyooka Theater Festival.
