In “The Metamorphosis” by Franz Kafka, the protagonist Gregor Samsa wakes up one morning to find himself transformed into a giant insect. Shut away from the world, he is eventually abandoned by his family and dies alone.

But what if Gregor had continued living in that transformed body? What if he had interacted with others and the world?

We have not transformed into insects, but somehow, each of us suddenly exists in this body, this flesh, as this self.

A juggler and a dancer are transformed by “Hands.”

As people engage with these hands, bodies, space, and perception are continuously transformed anew.

Oscillating between object and flesh, the subject begins to dissolve, and the body becomes replaceable and expands to the scale of the world. At that moment, it is precisely in that expansion that the raw, visceral presence of flesh emerges.

In this project, focusing on what might have happened after Gregor’s story, we explore the depth and uncanny nature of the body through encounters with objects and others. It is an attempt to rediscover and recognize our own flesh anew.
