In this project, a real correspondence takes place, and the resulting “letters” are brought to life as the artwork itself.

The project features Matsui, a playwright and director originally from Kyoto who has been based in Tokyo since attending Tama Art University, and Fuka Nagai, a playwright also from Kyoto who is now based in Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture, since entering the Professional University of Arts and Tourism.

Operating from different locations, Matsui and Nagai create characters inspired by the landscapes of the cities they live in and engage in a correspondence through letters.

The landscapes they gaze upon are transformed directly into words and delivered to one another. While these exchanged letters are works of fiction, they gradually become a mirror, reflecting a reality that remains intimately connected to their own.

In this piece, the words (letters) spun from this correspondence serve directly as the text, brought to life on stage. As words enveloped in the atmospheres of different lands intertwine, the silhouette of another “city that might have been” should emerge before the audience. This is an attempt at a quiet, dramatic dialogue, addressed from a distant place to the “here” where you stand.

A creative unit primarily composed of alumni and current students of Tama Art University, established in 2024. The unit consists of three members:  Matsui Eri, JO Nobuyuki, and WAKANA Kataoka.

They depict people struggling with the same problems as us, living in a strange world that is just a little bit different from our own—a tiny shift that changes everything.
