Junko Umehara lived her life as an underground idol in Tokyo, frequently changing her stage name and persona. She has ended up singing popular songs from the Showa Era live, emulating the style of elderly woman Eiko Unabara, who sang on the streets of Ikebukuro, ignored by all who walked past. Junko unravels Eiko’s life story, starting from fifty years ago, when she first moved to Tokyo.

The only props onstage are a case of beer and a guitar.
This performance has been staged at various indoor and outdoor venues in Japan, including Tokyo, Miyagi, and Mie Prefectures. This one-person play by Kanami Kikuchi was previously presented as part of the Toyooka Theater Festival in 2019 at the studio in Kinosaki International Arts Center and in 2020 at the event square in front of Ebara Station.

Formed in 2010, Usagi Stripe performs the works of Yoko Oike. Drawing on the notion that we are all going to die eventually, they use the fictiveness of performance to depict death and everyday life as neighboring territories.
