This work is a one-person stage adaptation of Atsushi Nakajima’s The Moon Over the Mountain, a classic that is included in high-school textbooks. Accompanied by musician Yuki Nakagawa’s cello performance, the play portrays a man’s feelings of loneliness and longing after his transformation into a tiger.

Actor Hiroshi Kosuge says, “What on Earth makes us human? What basis do we have to believe we are not simply beasts? When considered in this way, the questions and insights from The Moon Over the Mountain become lessons that illuminate our present times and offer a glimpse into our future.”

Previously performed in various locations, this iteration of The Moon Over the Mountain for the Toyooka Theater Festival will be presented in Kami Town and Takarazuka City.

Hiroshi Kosuge × Yuki Nakagawa
A unit consisting of actor Hiroshi Kosuge and musician/cellist Yuki Nakagawa. The duo began working together in 2020 when they performed The Moon over the Mountain (Sangetsuki), which was part of Kosuge’s repertoire, accompanied by Nakagawa’s cello. Since then, they have focused on performing the same work, but have also performed Haikei, Chourui-san, a stage adaptation of a poem by poet Ogasawara Chourui. They are also currently rehearsing for a stage adaptation of Edogawa Ranpo’s The Dancing Dwarf (Odoru Issun-boshi).
