— A Phone Call Connects Two Women Across Borders

A woman working as a sex worker in Tokyo is connected, by a single phone call, to a girl awaiting genital mutilation. The Wind, a representative work by Nana Ichikawa that questions the right to bodily autonomy and what “salvation” means in contemporary society, will be boldly reimagined from its most
recent performance in Philippines in May 2026.

Staging is by Shuji Onodera from the Company Derashinera , known for drawing attention across generations with his distinctive mime-based direction. Music and performance are
by Baku Furukawa, who works across singing, guitar composition, and arrangement, and has recently been widely active in stage music as well. The cast includes Nanami Kusaka, active as both an actor and Chinese pipa (biwa)player; Rina Sakiyama, a performer/choreographer from the Company Derashinera; and Amy Urick, an actor and singerexpanding her range from plays to music theater.

The Wind is an Official program of the 13th International Women Playwrights Conference.

This marks the first production by torso, Nana Ichikawa’s solo project.
